road trip to Palmyra, NY

About two weeks ago my friend Lourdes and I decided to pack the kids up and head up to Palmyra, NY to see The Hill Cumorah Pageant. We left the morning we decided to go, drove 6 hours, saw the pageant, stayed in a great hotel with a pool and breakfast, saw the church history sites, had lunch and came home.
heres the recap:

we had to stop and Stew Leonard's for lunch and their delicious soft-served ice cream
The Hill Cumorah Pageant with some of the actors before the show
walking up the hill in the morning- it is really steep!
the monument at the top of the hill
this is the Christus statue by Thorvaldsen at the visitors center at the Hill Cumorah

they kind of look like they are posing for a magazine ad :)
Palmyra Temple- the grounds are absolutely beautiful!!
my cute James
Zanna loves finding the petals that have fallen and collecting them- these ones were pink and shimmery...she was in petal heaven
the Joseph Smith home
I would love to have dinner here in this cozy home...my favorite thing is the fireplace

the Sacred Grove
more ice cream!
We tried to go to "The Chill and Grill" because it has HUGE ice cream and I was so excited to go, but when pulled up a gigantic bus load of kids had just gotten there and the line was too long- we were starving. So we settled for "Brad and Dad's" and it was great.

What a fun, spontaneous rode trip-- thanks for the great time Lourdes, Ryan and Jason!

We had a great time!
The best times sometimes are completely unplanned.
This was a great road trip
and I will always cherish this memory. Thanks Mel, Zanna and James

How fun! My husband's family lives out there about an hour from Palmyra. And my mother-in-law actually works for the church cleaning and working on the temple, pageant, and other historical sites.
