my sad story

So, here's my big announcement- I AM NOT PREGNANT! But, listen to the comment I got the other day... I was at COSTCO and I saw a friend I hadn't seen for a long time (since the beginning of this past summer) She is about 30+ years older than me and from another country-- not sure which one-- and very open with her thoughts.

Anyway, she said, "oh, Melanie, how are you? we haven't seen you for such a long time...(small pause) you've put on some weight."

I think "uh, yeah a little, but nobody is supposed to talk about it..."

so I say, "um, yeah, but not for any good reason."

the other friend she is with says excitedly, "Oh, for a GOOD reason?"

and  I sadly have to reply, "no, I said, not for any good reason."

this is the first time this has happened to me and it was not fun or something I would recommend to anyone.  as if I wasn't already a little self conscious about this and then this happens- great! So, I went home and had some pizza and some mini twix's- it was an awesome day in my life.

okay, that's funny....especially since you are one of the skinniest most in shape people that I've ever known! That woman is crazy! haha! what a funny story! I love you! Whenever I see your pictures on your blog, I think to myself "I hate her! She's so skinny!" I hate having skinny friends! haha!

Having seen you...oh...extremely recently, I can testify that this woman's comment is completely random. You look like a model.
My sister Cecily and I often have this conversation:
"And she has perfect hair..."
"And she's so skinny..."
"But she's NICE! You can't even hate her!"
"Oh, I know. And her kids are so cute."
"And she's so smart. It would help if she wasn't."
"And she can cope with anything."
"Oh, and she'd do ANYTHING for you."
"So true. And she does what she says she's going to do. Right away."
"Sigh..."
I COULD go on! Or I could tell you about the time when my Japanese friend mistook me for a six foot three, 250 pound Maori native woman...

Maybe it'll make you feel better if I tell you it's happened to me before... and not by foreign women... by ladies in my ward (notice the ladies... meaning more than one! and on separate occasions). You really feel good aobut yourself after something like that!! I know how you feel.

I know that I haven't seen you since high school so for 10 years now but youd have to be a freak to think you even remotly looked like you have put on weight! My sad story is that I'm pregnant well that's not the sad part but that my doctor told me, after I already said no, that I really should consider the testing for downs syndrome since I'm over 35! As if I wasn't crying to her enough that day! I said to her no really I'm not interested plus I'm only 28, thanks! She has my file! Some people!

Hello friends and fam that are really nice to make me feel better! I didn't write this so that you would all tell me all these complimentary things- but I just wanted to say thanks for the nice replies and the "I can relate" posts- I am feeling much better!

I love foreign tactfulness! Especially when they're talking to Ms. Fit (get it misfit?). Anyway, I imagine she probably just wanted you to give up your samples. She was hungry, that's all.

I think you found the perfect solution. Wash down those blues with some pizza and milkshakes. :) It's what I'd do.
